Personal Life and Professional Impact

While some may think that it’s best to separate personal life and professional life, it’s tough to deny that one impacts the other. There is no way around it, especially in this time, where we are encouraged to bring our whole selves to work. The activities and hobbies that you participate in help shape your worldview, your habits, and your larger goals.

In the coming weeks, I will share what my hobbies and activities have taught me, and how these learnings can directly apply to work life and career development. Today, I’m going to cover my experience studying a new language.

Seizing Your Next Opportunity

New opportunities are exciting, especially when they come as a result of your hard work over a long period of time. In the space between closing a difficult project, and taking on a new one, there is a unique sort of clarity, where you can exhale, take a pause, and feel proud of all that you’ve accomplished, while also feeling inspired to take the next step. You’ve put in the work, and now, you’re able to enjoy the moment; to shine in the spotlight.

Accepting Feedback Gracefully

Feedback. Constructive criticism. Whatever you call it, it’s vital to continued growth and improvement. While nobody enjoys hearing about their weaknesses, or perceived flaws, feedback is truly a gift, because it allows you to examine your work from an outside perspective. It can shed light into blindspots and unearth vital elements that would have otherwise gone unseen, and therefore, unimproved.

Managing Expectations in Life

Good times, and bad times, we all have them. Whether the duration is a day, or even a year, we all know what it’s like to ride the wave of excitement and achievement, or on the flip side, slide down the tunnel of anxiety and disappointment. Some may call it a string of good or bad luck, but really, it’s just a part of life, and there is no way to avoid it. We’re told to enjoy the good times, and endure the hard times, because nothing lasts forever. After all, change is the only constant in life.

Figuring Out What You Really Want Out of (Post-Pandemic) Life

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel a little bit off lately? The pandemic, at least in the U.S., seems to be winding down thanks to the vaccine rollout. By most accounts, we are beginning to transition back into life as we knew it. After about 15 months of limited options, we now have a wide array of options on how we spend our free time, and professional time too!
